Top Beverages Trends in 2023

The year 2022 was a relatively excellent one for the alcohol sector. The global value of all alcoholic beverages has already surpassed pre-pandemic levels, which shows how quickly the industry recovered. We anxiously anticipate the trends in the drinks industry that will emerge in the next year since agave and whisky spirits both saw growth this past year, and the TTB also introduced new categories and rules.
Will the Pornstar Martini eventually display its star power to Americans? Will we resume drinking at home as we did in 2020? Here are the top beverage trends to watch in 2023.
American Single Malt
For whisky aficionados in the United States, the new proposal for legal rules designating American single malt should not be ignored. Even though the aging criteria suggested by those same standards make a flurry of new releases in 2023 impossible, this does indicate that it's time to pay attention to this soon-to-be-official subcategory. Recent purchases of liquor brands indicate that the main players in the market are already there.
Cringe Cocktails
2023 will undoubtedly be remembered as the year of the cringe cocktail. Cocktails that look silly and taste sweet are known as "cringe drinks." (Consider martinis with porn stars as examples.) And even though they were quite popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s, they will return in 2023. Candy cocktails and fluffy pink beverages already fill our TikTok feeds. Additionally, we're thrilled to bring back some cheesy favorites like blue Lagunas, grasshoppers, and banana daiquiris.
Slushies
What is the simplest method to spice up a drink? Create a slushie out of it. We're stretching the boundaries of what can be a frozen drink in 2023, and alternatives abound. A perennial favorite is frosé. The trend of frozen negronis is growing. Additionally, TikTok is becoming a hub for creative slushies of all types. One of the finest aspects of this fashion trend? Both cocktails and mocktails can be used with it. So you may rethink anything from sodas to mixed drinks.
The Pornstar Martini
We're overdue for a fresh "tini riff" on American soil with the Martini's current level of popularity and the possible peaking of drinks like the Espresso Martini. Despite being the drink of choice across the pond, the Pornstar Martini has never really taken hold in the United States. But that may happen in 2023. It's just a matter of time until the ironically named Pornstar Martini achieves success in the United States, what with passion fruit making its way onto more cocktail menus and liqueurs like Chinola winning over bartenders everywhere.
90’s Martini Riffs
2022 taught us just how potent the Martini can be, from gin and vodka to some of the dirtiest variations we've ever seen. Just don't call it a return. Fortunately or sadly, depending on how you look at it, we will witness a resurrection of the "tinis" that once dominated the '90s next year thanks to the classic cocktail's tremendous rise in popularity and its famous V-shaped glass. It won't be long until Lemon Drops, Breakfast Martinis, and other sweet Martini variants (a.k.a. any drink served in a Martini glass) are once again joined by Appletinis, which are already making a comeback on cocktail menus.
Stout
Despite having a 7.4% share of the beer market, stout's on-trade volume increased by 3.2% in the six months leading up to September 2022. Customers laud the smooth texture and chocolatey flavors of stout, which is the second most highly rated beer style. Innovation and engagement are being sparked by this.
Over the World Cup, stout sales showed a 57% spike in volume.
