Qatar Bans Alcohol Sales at World Cup stadiums in Qatar

Qatar is the first Middle Eastern country to hold Fifa matches. The country had seen a surge in the construction sector preceding this World Cup. The country has been touted to be conservative, and anti-LGBT with no cushion for alcohol and drugs. However, following the fact that Fifa brings in a huge footfall of fans. The policies were tweaked and softened.

Previously, selected areas of the stadium had been marked for the sale of alcohol. Travelers from other parts of the world could buy and drink in the designated area. To add further, Budweiser, had exclusive rights to sell beer at the World Cup. Not only that they were a major sponsor of the Fifa. However, two days before the matches begin Qatar has reduced the use of alcohol in other places.

Beer ban in Qatar.jpgFifa released their statement for all that quoted, "Following discussions between host country authorities and Fifa, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the Fifa fan festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing sales points of beer from Qatar's Fifa World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters." 

The statement part also read, "Host country authorities and Fifa will continue to ensure that the stadiums and surrounding areas provide an enjoyable, respectful, and pleasant experience for all fans. The tournament organizers appreciate AB InBev's understanding and continuous support to our joint commitment to cater for everyone during the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022."

Now, only time will tell how football fans react to this news. While some were mad at not holding their favorite drinks with their mates while watching the match. Others, said we have to adapt and look for good play in the stadium.
