Hershey's Secret ingredient Might Make You Puke

In 1900, confectioner Milton S. Hershey encountered an issue with the dairy products he was using. It was discovered that the dairy had slightly curdled, but instead of wasting it, Hershey decided to utilize the sour milk. However, he first dehydrated it.

According to an article from Mashed, Hershey's chocolate contains butyric acid, which is the same chemical that gives vomit its rancid taste and smell. This acid occurs naturally in dairy products like butter, Parmesan, and milk. Due to the process of lipolysis, which is the decomposition of fatty acids in milk, this chemical is naturally present in Hershey's chocolate.

Jeff Beckman, the director of corporate communications at Hershey's, did not confirm this information. He stated that their milk contains lipase, an enzyme that breaks down milk fats.

@ThisIsPlanetFood asked his followers about their thoughts on Hershey's chocolate and its taste. Many expressed their dislike for the flavor, with one person saying it tastes nothing like chocolate. Another individual, who tried it once as a British person, nearly threw up. However, some shared their positive experiences, such as finding the cookies and cream variant to be amazing.

One TikTok user admitted to never having tasted Hershey's before and now intends to keep it that way, based on the information shared.
