An expert in nutrition reveals the "underrated" longevity food she consumes each day to strengthen her immune system.
A 2022 study that appeared in the journal PLOS Medicine found that replacing processed meals and red meat with legumes, healthy grains, and vegetables can extend a person's life expectancy by more than ten years in their 20s or 30s.
Legumes aren't typically considered when thinking of foods that promote long life. But she eats them every day as part of my vegan diet to help maintain my body healthy and ward off disease because she is a dietitian.
Beans, such as black beans, lentil beans, soybeans, fava beans, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), kidney beans, edamame, and lima beans, are the most popular kind of legumes.
Eating legumes instead of animal proteins can help reduce your chance of developing cancer, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. This recommendation comes from the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, and American Heart Association.
