4th Monkeypox Case In Pakistan

Pakistan has reported its fourth case of monkeypox, with the infection believed to have originated from Saudi Arabia. The patient, who arrived in Islamabad from Makkah, tested positive for the disease, according to sources.

Confirmation and Patient's Condition

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed the new case and stated that the patient has been transferred to the isolation ward at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. All four monkeypox patients in Pakistan have a travel history from Saudi Arabia, with three cases from Islamabad and one from Karachi.

Nature and Transmission of Monkeypox

Monkeypox is a rare yet potentially life-threatening disease caused by a virus similar to the smallpox virus. It is primarily transmitted from animals to humans and can further spread among humans through close contact.

Treatment and Preventive Measures

Currently, supportive care is the main approach for treating monkeypox. In some situations, vaccines and therapeutics developed for smallpox, which are approved for use in certain countries, can be utilized. The Health Department has advised individuals to practice preventive measures, such as frequent handwashing and avoiding close contact with symptomatic individuals.

It's important to stay vigilant and follow the guidance provided by health authorities to prevent the spread of the disease.
