What is a Brazilian wax?

Pubic hair is groomed and removed from the front of the pubic bone, around the external genitals, between the upper thighs, and around the anus during a Brazilian wax. You can choose to remove all hair in the area or leave a small strip of hair in the front, depending on your preferences.

How is this different from a bikini line wax or bikini full wax?

Basic bikini line waxes typically clean up hair in the groin region, wherever hair could poke out from a swimsuit bottom: on the sides of the bikini (or underwear) line and between the belly button and pubic bone.

Everything in a bikini line wax is included, as well as hair removal on the front of the pubic bone. You can leave a hair strip, triangle, or square behind.

The Brazilian takes it a step further by removing all pubic hair, from the front of the pubic bone to the area beneath, known as the perineum, to the anus.

How to Get Ready for Your Appointment

Check-in with yourself before the appointment to ensure that you are prepared. You must:

Make sure your hair is at least 14 inches long — the length of a grain of rice. If it's longer than 12 inches, you might want to trim it slightly so the wax has a better grip.

Exfoliate gently with a buffing mitt or a washcloth a few days before your appointment to help prevent ingrown hairs.

Avoid tanning for at least 24 hours before your appointment because it can make your skin more sensitive.

Reduce your intake of caffeine on the day of your appointment. Both can tighten your pores and make waxing more painful.

Wear breathable cotton underwear.

What is the process of getting Brazilian wax?

Your wax technician will instruct you to undress from the waist down and climb onto the table.

Before doing anything, the technician will most likely ask you for your preferences. Tell them if you want a bikini line wax, a bikini full, a full Brazilian, or any remaining hair strips.

The technician will then perform some cleaning to ensure that the wax has a clean surface to adhere to.

After cleaning the area, they'll apply a pre-wax treatment, usually an oil or powder, to protect the skin.

Then there's the waxing! Depending on the type of wax, your technician will remove your hair with either paper or cloth. Smaller strips could be placed beneath and around the anus.

Advantages of Brazilian wax

Waxing is a form of deep exfoliation outside of the smoother bikini region. This type of physical exfoliation, according to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, removes dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin to promote collagen production and increase the efficacy of topical treatments. This hair removal method is also one of the least irritating to the skin. Waxing, when done correctly, is less likely than using an epilator or shaving to cause an unwanted rash, bumps, or other irritation. But that isn't all. Waxing removes hair from the root. Hair that regrows in the same place is usually weaker, softer, and thinner than it was before. This means you'll have less hair to groom over time.

Side effects of Brazilian Wax

Like any other method of hair removal, waxing has some potential side effects. You may experience redness, discoloration, or bumps immediately following your wax; this is extremely common and should go away within the next 24 hours. You can aid the healing process by applying pubic region lotions or serums. These can also aid in the prevention of ingrown hairs. If you're not used to having your pubic hair removed, you may experience some itchiness. Refrain from scratching! This could result in additional skin irritation or microtears.
